Redding, CA – The Shasta County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a 3 year 8 month contract with the Shasta County General Unit (SCGU) this morning ending nearly a year of negotiations for the rank and file employees. The contract grants a 3% raise March 5, 2017, 3% July 9, 2017, 2% April 29, 2018 and completely removes the monthly retiree admin fee of $52.80 by the end of the contract.
Shasta County employees walked of the job January 30th when the Board of Supervisors refused to accept the recommendations of neutral fact finder over the retiree admin fee and issues of safety. The strike lasted five (5) days during which time the Board of Supervisors directed the County negotiator to resolve the impasse issues and propose a settlement.
Business Manager Chris Darker appeared before the Board this morning and said, “Twenty-six (26) days ago, we asked you to give authority to the County negotiator to resolve the impasse issues of fairness and safety. You did that, and on behalf of all our members, we extend a sincere thank you”. Darker also thanked the office of Support Services and particularly Director Angela Davis for her professionalism throughout this process.
